Austin Community College unveils art facility for students hoping to work in fashion

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Community College is celebrating the grand opening of a new state of the art facility Tuesday.

The fashion incubator at the Highland Campus is the first of its kind in central Texas and it will provide students with experience in the fashion industry.

The facility is equipped with about $13 million worth of new technology and equipment that instructors say will give students an advantage.

“This gives the students access to real industry experience and it gives them an edge that they wouldn’t get from a lot of other fashion programs,” said Kristopher Stevens instructor at the Highland Campus.

The fashion industry brings $86 million into the local economy. The 7,500 square foot facility was developed in partnership with the City of Austin.
