AUSTIN (KXAN) — The defense team for accused kidnapper Terry Miles rested its case after one day of testimony Monday.
Miles is accused of taking two Round Rock girls across state lines into Colorado after their mother Tonya Bates was found dead. So far, Miles has not been named as a suspect in her death.
Defense attorneys are trying to portray Miles as a protector and that the sisters were not safe around their mother. One witness said Tonya Bates' oldest daughter claimed to not have a close relationship with her mom and that she went willingly with Miles.
Another witness said that the teenager was sent to the emergency room in November after she was hit in the face by a woman who claimed Bates owed her money.
Both sides are now getting ready for closing arguments Tuesday morning.
