Astros recognized on the State Senate floor for World Series win

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Houston Astros are being honored at the State Capitol Monday for their World Series win in 2017.

State Senator Carol Alvarado wanted to recognize the team for more than their win. In a statement, the Houston Democrat wrote “In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the worst storm our city has faced, the Astros exemplified #HoustonStrong resilience and determination during their postseason march toward Houston’s first ever World Series championship.”

Members of the team expected at Monday’s event include outfielders Tony Kemp and Jake Marisnick, and relief pitcher Will Harris. Other members of the Astros organization include Jeff Luhnow, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager, Reid Ryan, President of Business Operations.

The Texas legislature has its session every two years. This was the first session since the Astros win, which is why the team is being recognized now.
