AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police sent SWAT officers to an east Austin apartment after a man wanted for aggravated robbery refused to come out Thursday morning. By Thursday evening, the Austin Police Department said officers weren’t able to find him.

Police said they went to the apartment complex located in the 2000 block of E. Sixth Street at about 11:30 a.m. to serve a warrant to Victor Rene Machado. However, police said he wouldn’t leave his home, which prompted SWAT to become involved.

Police said they sent a robot equipped with a camera into Machado’s apartment. An officer told KXAN police are “making every attempt” to bring this situation to a “peaceful resolution.”

Police said they believed he was still inside the home but said around 9 p.m. that officers couldn’t locate him. The scene was cleared.

UT Elementary Charter School was placed on a “secure lockout” out of an abundance of caution, officials said. A secure lockout is when all doors are locked and closed, but students remain in their classrooms.
