AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police have identified a man killed in a stabbing in north Austin on Sunday and are now searching for the men responsible.

Around 10 p.m., police, fire crews and Austin-Travis County EMS responded to a reported stabbing at the Villa at Quail Creek Apartment complex at the 9000 block of N. Lamar Blvd. When authorities arrived at the apartments, they found the victim, 49-year-old Pedro Calcalel, with multiple stab wounds.

ATCEMS transported Calcalel to Dell Seton Medical Center for immediate emergency surgery. Calcalel was pronounced dead on Monday morning.

The stabbing was previously believed to have occurred during a robbery, but in a press conference Tuesday, APD revealed that nothing was taken from the victim. APD added that Calcalel had been taking out the trash and when he returned to his apartment, he had been stabbed.

The police are looking for 2-3 male suspects who are described as Hispanic with dark complexions or black men who speak Spanish. The victim reportedly did not know the men.

This was the first murder of 2019 and the first murder of the previous year happened on the same day.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
