APD searching for connections between 3 assaults

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is looking into the connections between a Monday sexual assault and two other assaults earlier in the month.

According to police, a man sexually assaulted a woman after breaking into her apartment at the High Oaks Apartments on Jollyville Road on Monday. Sex Crimes Investigators are now looking into the possibility that the attack could be connected to an attack that happened on Feb. 1 in the Mueller development and one on Feb. 2, on Clayton Lane.

In the Mueller assault, a woman says a man came from behind her and tackled her to the ground. She was, however, able to fight the man off.

Police say the woman in the Clayton Lane assault opened her door after hearing a knock, a man forced his way inside and sexual assaulted her.

In both cases, there were similarities. Although the Mueller attack was not a sexual assault, Sex Crimes investigators are handling it due to these similarities.

Police aren’t ruling out the possibility that a serial predator could be tied to these assaults, in addition to several back in 2016. That year, 15 women were either assaulted or sexually assaulted and police believe same man was behind the attacks.

At the moment, very little identifiable information on the suspect is known.
