APD releases details on Austin’s 11th traffic fatality of 2019

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police have released some information into the fatal cyclist-vehicle collision on March 28 — the eleventh traffic fatality of 2019 in Austin.

According to APD, the preliminary investigation shows that a white Toyota 4-Runner was traveling westbound on East Martin Luther King Boulevard in the left lane. Witnesses stated that the cyclist, 28-year-old Austinite Jessica Saathoff, was traveling eastbound on MLK and crossed over the double yellow lines into the path of the Toyota.

Saathoff was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center where she died a short time later.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and while the investigation is still open, no charges are expected to be filed.

The incident is the eleventh traffic fatality this year. At this time in 2018, there were 14 fatal crashes and 15 traffic fatalities.
