Denny's Shooting

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Authorities are searching for a suspect in connection to a shooting at a Denny’s in north Austin during SXSW, according to Austin police.

Authorities responded to the call of the shooting at a Denny’s at 7100 North Interstate Highway 35 Service Road. Briyon Lamar Smith, 28, is accused of shooting the manager of the restaurant.

Surveillance footage from the Denny’s and the Motel 6 next door showed a black Chrysler park at the restaurant the night of the shooting. It also shows an altercation between the suspects in the car and Denny’s employees that led to the shooting.

When police arrived at the scene they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the chest and right arm. He was transported to Dell Seaton Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told the officers multiple suspects left in a black Chrysler sedan. A quick investigation of the car’s plates led police to Cedar Hill in Dallas County. They discovered that Smith’s girlfriend owned the car.

Investigators identified Smith as the shooter in the video and he was picked out of a lineup by a witness.
