Arrest warrant issued for accused CapMetro bus shooter

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An arrest warrant on multiple charges has been issued for a man accused of opening fire at a CapMetro bus in October.

According to the warrant, Austin resident Deontony Standberry, 24, shot at the CapMetro bus he had just disembarked after an altercation with two female passengers. Officers were called to the 1100 block of Springdale Road, where a 16-year old victim explained that Standberry accused her of stealing his headphones before he began arguing with another female passenger he knew.

At this time, the bus driver stopped the bus to break up the altercation and Standberry and his acquaintance stopped arguing. Once the bus had come to a stop, the woman reportedly grabbed Standberry's backpack and ran off the bus with it. Standberry then chased after her, the two engaged in a scuffle and then he removed a gun from the backpack. The woman then jumped back on the bus and Standberry fired twice at the bus as it moved away, according to the warrant.

Standberry is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one of criminal mischief. His bond is set at $202,500.
