AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police identified a man killed after a car jumped the curb and hit him before continuing into a ravine.

The crash happened July 26 around 8:40 a.m. on East Anderson Lane service road near Norwood Park Boulevard. Police say Luis Cristobal Landeros, 50, was walking eastbound on the sidewalk when a Mitsubishi Mirage traveling westbound lost control and hit him.

Landeros was taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later. The driver faces a Class C Unsafe Movement to the Right citation.

Lisa Gentry, Luis’ sister, told KXAN he was having car trouble and had called his boss because he was running late. He went to a nearby Walmart to have the car’s battery charged, leaving a note on the windshield asking that it not be towed because he would be right back with a battery.

Gentry said he was pushing a cart when he was hit. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
