AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Monday, the Austin Police Department arrested a man accused of assaulting an officer who was attempting to restrain him.

According to an arrest warrant, Davon D. Mathis, 18, assaulted one of the officers who responded to a family disturbance at a home where Mathis was with his mother and grandother. The officers reportedly arrived to find Mathis clutching a knife and behaving confrontationally.

When the officers grabbed the man’s arms to restraint him, Mathis struggled to get free, struck one of the officers in the face and continued attempting to hit both officers. They were finally able to restrain the man and took him into custody.

Mathis is charged with a felony 3 assault of a public servant charge and his bond is set at $15,000.
