AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s time for a number of talented young women from Austin to start practicing even more, because all eyes will be on them in 2020 during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders’ Marching Stars Band was selected from over 100 applicants to perform in the annual event. Austin ISD’s Fine Arts Department made the announcement via tweet, with a photo showing the girls posing next to a large button during a school assembly.

During its 2018 season, the Marching Stars finished in second place in Class A at the Bands of America San Antonio Super Regional, according to its website. The band is the largest student organization on campus and, according to school bands director Stephen Howard, they are the only all-female marching band in the country.

The Marching Stars will spend the next 18 months planning for the appearance, in addition to hosting fundraising events.

In 2018, the Bowie High School Silver Stars, the Hudson Bend Middle School Pom squad and the Lake Travis High School Red Rubies all performed in the parade.
