AUSTIN (KXAN) — AISD police says a missing 12-year-old girl last seen leaving a middle school in southwest Austin has been found safe and appears to be ok.

Austin Independent School District Chief Ashley Gonzalez tweeted that the girl was found Saturday night around 8:40 p.m.

Austin police issued an Amber Alert earlier in the day for her and AISD police asked for the public’s help finding her on Jan. 15.

An AISD spokesperson said Saturday the alert was issued because throughout the course of the investigation, they found out she could be in danger.

She was last seen leaving her school and was believed to be with her mother, who was in violation of a court order.

Constable Carlos Lopez with Precinct 5 told KXAN his office received a writ of attachment from a Travis County District Court asking for them to find her and they went to several addresses looking for her.

When they didn’t find her, that amber alert was issued and a missing person’s report was filed. Constable Lopez also said he didn’t know what led to the court order being issued.
