AUSTIN (KXAN) — In another way to get the product you ordered from Amazon to your doorstep, the e-commerce giant is working with local cargo delivery businesses by branding their vans with the company’s logo.
Amazon rolled out its first fleet of branded delivery vans in the country Thursday morning in Austin. The company is partnering with local businesses, such as Cargo Leasing Solutions, for those “last mile” deliveries.
“Before these vans, we had our own branded cargo leasing vans and we were providing the same service,” explains Roberto Ramon, CEO of Cargo Leasing Solutions, who has been working with Amazon for the past year. “Instead of having our own branded vans, we’ll have these Amazon-branded vans.”
Amazon says the vans help entrepreneurs like Ramon grow their business by keeping start-up costs low. Amazon does not own the vans; companies like Cargo Leasing Solutions lease the vans from a third-party.
“I think it’s the stamp of approval that Amazon has kind of given us to solidify our partnership even more than we already have,” says Ramon.
Cargo Leasing Solutions currently has 180 employees delivering packages for all types of businesses, not just Amazon, although they’re a “very important customer,” says Ramon.
The company plans to expand the van leasing program to other cities.
Over the past several years, Amazon has used different methods for “last mile” deliveries, including hiring Flex drivers.
