After canceled 2019 race, Cap10K making it right for 2020 runners

AUSTIN (KXAN) — April storms canceled the Statesman Capitol 10K for the first time in its 42-year history, but a little rain won’t ruin it for runners hoping to make it right in 2020.

It was announced on April 9 that the 2019 race would not be rescheduled nor would participants receive a refund. On Wednesday, Cap10K organizers announced they’re instead handing out a free pass for 2020, giving 2019 registrants free entry.

Cap10K organizers sent this email to participants Wednesday morning:

“While the 42nd year wasn’t our year, we did our best to quickly, clearly and sincerely answer the most urgent cancellation questions in a single email. After we sent the email, we continued our work to find a solution for registration for the 2020 Cap10K.”

Registration for the 43rd Cap10K opens June 3 and 2019 registrants will receive a separate link in their email inbox which will allow them the free sign up for 2020.

The free offer expires after July 1.

The 2020 race beneficiary will be the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.
