AUSTIN (KXAN) — An early morning hit-and-run crash led Austin police to a drug bust, according to an arrest affidavit.

It happened a few minutes after 1 a.m. Saturday morning near Cameron Road and US Highway 290.

Officers said when they arrived they found several cars involved in a collision. Witnesses told police that one of the vehicles — a black sedan — sped off from the scene.

Police tracked down 30-year-old Jonathan Torres hiding in the bushes and found a heavily damaged black car nearby.

Officers searched Torres’s belongings and discovered more than a pound of marijuana.

Court documents show that he later admitted to being distracted and causing the wreck.

He’s facing charges including Possession of Marijuana, Accident Involving Injury and Driving While Intoxicated. He is in the Travis County Jail with bond set at $25,000.
