AUSTIN (KXAN) — For a little while, she was the new mascot of Austin Fire Department Station 5.

Firefighters discovered a pit bull puppy on their doorstep Wednesday night when Fourth of July fireworks started going off. With no collar or identification to be found, they took in the scared pup and cared for her overnight, nicknaming her “Julia.”

The next day, they took her to see if she had a microchip.

“Unfortunately, no luck there either (if you have a pet that’s not microchipped, PLEASE take care of that right away,” the fire department wrote on Facebook.

One of the firefighters stepped up to care for her until her owner could be found. A day later, they were.

Turns out, the pup’s name is “Royalty” and her mom and dad came Thursday night to take her home from the station.

“So glad we could do our part to help get this little one back to her rightful kingdom!” AFD wrote on Facebook.
