AFD issues waterway ban for Red Bud Trail and Oyster Landing

Barton Creek pours into Lady Bird Lake on Oct. 19, 2018

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department has issued a waterway ban in several areas due to heavy rain in Central Texas and ongoing floodgate operations on the Highland Lakes.

The closed areas include:

  • Ladybird Lake from Red Bud Trail upstream to Tom Miller Dam
  • Lake Austin from Oyster Landing downstream to Tom Miller Dam

According to AFD, these areas create high and strong waters making any recreational, commercial or navigational use of the waterways unsafe.

The fire department also says it is an offense to violate this ban, attempt a low water crossing or enter a barricaded road. In addition, any watercraft used in these areas will be impounded.

A previous waterway ban that included Red Bud Trail upstream to Tom Miller Dam was extended until noon on Friday

This current ban will remain in effect until Wednesday, May 15.
