AFD finds body while working grass fire in south Austin


AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are investigating a body that was found in a grass fire in south Austin Sunday evening.

Austin fire responded to a call at approximately 6:14 p.m. of a collision near the 7600 block of south Interstate 35.

While working the collision, firefighters spotted smoke rising from the woodline to the east. There they discovered a grass fire.

While working the fire, a dead body was discovered. The deceased has been identified as a male, but the cause of death is still unknown.

The APD homicide division is working with AFD arson investigators are looking into this case. No further details were released at this time.
