3 teens face capital murder charges for south Austin shooting

Austin

Three teenagers are facing capital murder charges after a drug deal robbery left a man dead early Tuesday morning in South Austin.

Earlier this week police asked for help identifying a suspect based on his Snapchat username after a video of a fight involving the shooting victim surfaced on the social network.

Officers were called to the scene at 412 E. William Cannon Dr., just west of Interstate 35, just before 2 a.m. Tuesday. They arrived to find Isaac Christopher Morey, 19, with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and identified some of the suspects via Snapchat, resulting in capital murder charges against Jalen Ray Veliz, Cesar Carlos Carlos and Tommy Lee Potter; all the suspects are 17 years old.

Veliz is being held on a $1 million bond. According to the affidavit for his arrest, he was armed with a rifle and fired a single shot, striking Morey.
