BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The three siblings and their friend killed in a collision on State Highway 21 on Friday while on their way to watch a family member compete have been identified.
Michael G. Williams and his sisters, 17-year-old Tiffany Williams and a 12-year-old who wasn’t named, as well as friend Peyton Mackenzie Irwin, 19, died at the scene. They were all Huntsville ISD students. The Williams siblings’ mother, who was driving, is in a coma at Dell Seton Medical Center, according to Huntsville ISD.
The Williams family and their friend were in a Toyota Corolla heading west on SH 21 and had stopped at Quarter Horse Loop to turn left around 8:50 p.m. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of a Ford Pickup “failed to control its speed“ and hit the Toyota. DPS said surveillance video from a nearby gun store showed the truck didn’t brake until .6 seconds before impact.
The investigation is still ongoing and it’s not known if the truck driver was cited.
