AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department will conduct its No Refusal initiative starting Memorial Day Weekend and it will run through mid-June.

The agency says this No Refusal will cover the holiday weekend, starting May 24, and will also cover the Republic of Texas Motorcycle Rally. No Refusal will be operational from 3 p.m.-5 a.m. each day.

“This initiative is an effort to keep the public safe by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions, enforce DWI laws and apply for blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to provide a breath or blood specimen as required by law,” wrote APD in a news release.

Since it’s the official kickoff of summer this weekend, APD will also focus on the waterways and boating while intoxicated.

APD says No Refusal will also be implemented every weekend for the rest of the summer.
