'Children of the Confederacy Creed' plaque removed from Texas Capitol

AUSTIN (KXAN) — State Rep. Eric Johnson, D-Dallas, confirmed the removal of the "Children of the Confederacy Creed" plaque Sunday.

In a release, his office wrote that the plaque was removed from the wall where it hung inside of the Texas Capitol for 60 years.

Calls for the plaque's removal began over a year ago and were first voiced by Rep. Johnson.

The Texas State Preservation Board voted Friday to remove the plaque. Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the newly-elected Speaker of the House, Dennis Bonnen are members of the preservation board.

It is unknown if/where the plaque will be relocated.
