AUSTIN (KXAN) — A suspect was detained after a SWAT callout near State Highway 71 and Old Bee Caves Road in Oak Hill Tuesday afternoon, according to the Austin Police Department.

Police said reports a man walking around, brandishing a weapon in the 7100 block of West SH-71 came in just before 12:30 p.m.

Officers couldn’t find the man at first but did hear shots being fired and screaming at the scene, APD said.

SWAT and the APD air and K9 units were called to help. The Travis County Constable’s Office also responded, police said.

Law enforcement set up a perimeter in the area, which helped in capturing the suspect. Charges are pending for aggravated robbery, APD said.

A viewer sent us cell phone video of someone pointing a weapon at another man, sent in around the same time and in the same area. KXAN sent the video to APD to see if it was connected with the case, and they confirmed it was.

The areas most affected by the suspect and police activity were a wooded area and a construction site, according to APD.

No one was hurt, police said, and officers were glad the situation was safely resolved.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area, which is near Hill Oaks Drive and Williamson Creek. Old Bee Caves Road was also closed off temporarily, APD said.
