Austin (KXAN) — As October inches closer that means candy, costumes and Halloween. Finding affordable costumes can be tricky rather than treating for struggling families, but one local non-profit hopes to solve that problem.
Costume Connections aims to help low income families by providing children with free Halloween costumes. They kicked off their season of giving with a fundraiser at Wagner’s Backyard in Pflugerville on Sunday.
The organization collects old, gently used Halloween costumes, cleans them up, and then gives them to children in need in Travis and Williamson counties.
“This year we are so excited,” said Michelle Burns, founder of Costume Connections. “What we are going to do is have pop-up shop locations where the kids can come and shop for their costumes. We are partnering with Austin rec centers, Round Rock rec centers.”
The non-profit will open pop-up shops every Saturday from Sept. 30 until Oct. 28. A list of times and locations can be found here.
