ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — Freshman State Representative James Talarico from Round Rock joined several other state reps Wednesday to lay out the “whole student agenda.”
The agenda consists of 24 bipartisan bills that aim to teach K-12 student civics, sex ed, financial literacy and other personal skills.
They hope to boost mental health services and suicide prevention programs along the way to help cut back on violence in schools.
“With guns in schools and killings in classrooms, we have a moral obligation to teach the whole student. There is much more to developing a child’s mind than simple arithmetic and reading and writing, we have to also address the child’s heart and spirit and body,” said Rep. Talarico.
This legislative session, Gov. Greg Abbott named mental health and school safety emergency items.
