A man in his 20s and a woman in her 50s were shot in a Pflugerville neighborhood Wednesday afternoon during an exchange of gunfire.
First responders were called to the 700 block of Botany Bay Circle, near the intersection of Dessau Road and Pecan Street, at 1:12 p.m., according to Helena Wright, spokesperson for Pflugerville police.
Wright says witnesses reported multiple shots were fired between two men. Three men then jumped into a red Camaro as a fourth man got into a Hyundai sedan and chased the Camaro.
Police say the Camaro driver stopped at the Pflugerville Recreation Center for help.
Pflugerville police say the woman is in critical condition and the man is in stable condition. Authorities have accounted for all the shooters.
People who live in the neighborhood who have surveillance cameras are encouraged to participate in the Digital Neighborhood Watch program.
Photos from the scene show a section of Botany Bay Circle is closed and marked off with crime scene tape. Officers believe the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
The recreation center will be closed for the remainder of the day as police investigate the shooting. Nearby Pflugerville Elementary School was placed on a brief lockout, meaning no one was allowed outside or to enter the building, but students continued their classes as normal inside.
