AUSTIN (KXAN) -- This weekend is a prime opportunity to get a taste of holiday cheer around central Texas, but the rain threatens to derail plans for some.

Austin Trail of Lights
- Night Lights Preview Party on Saturday

The Austin Trail of Lights at Zilker Park opens officially on Monday, but you can buy tickets to Saturday's Night Lights Preview Party to get a sneak peek. Money raised goes to help children, families, seniors, and veterans get to the Trail of Lights. As of Thursday, there were no changes to the schedule based on weather.
COTA Winter Wonderland

- Sunday is free admissions for veterans, active duty, first responders
Circuit of the Americas opened its Winter Wonderland experience for the second year, featuring a display dedicated to the Chinese Lantern Festival. The event runs Thursday-Sunday nights this weekend, then runs from Dec. 13-30. Veterans, active duty military and first responders get in free on Sunday. The team there canceled the event on Thursday night and is monitoring Friday's weather.
Buda Trail of Lights

The city of Buda pulled the trigger early, canceling Friday's event on Wednesday in light of the forecast. Organizers will wait and see about Saturday. The annual holiday light display continues for the next two weekends at Historic Stagecoach Park.
Round Rock Christmas Family Night

- Was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 7
- City promotes upcoming Christmas Towne
The city of Round Rock canceled its holiday lighting event scheduled for Friday night. "This will not dampen our Holiday Spirit here in Round Rock," a city spokesperson said, noting the 11-day Christmas Towne, which starts Thursday, Dec. 13, is still on. That event, including free light displays and a paid carnival, runs through Dec. 23 at the Old Settlers Association and the Dell Diamond Parking Lot.
San Marcos Sight & Sounds of Christmas

San Marcos' Sights & Sounds of Christmas, marred by a violent confrontation Wednesday, will go on as planned for now, but organizers said they were monitoring the weather and would make decisions on cancelations the day of the events. Saturday is the last day for the light displays, carnival rides and nightly Santa visits.
Cedar Park Tree Lighting and Santa's Workshop

Cedar Park opted to postpone its tree lighting event from Friday to Saturday night due to the anticipated rain. The event will happen at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Heritage Oaks Park, and will feature inflatables, music and free photos with Santa if you bring your own camera.
Bastrop Lost Pines Christmas and River of Lights
- Organizers watching for severe weather
- Minor changes to events based on rain, but no postponements or cancellations
- Parade on Saturday
Bastrop's weekend events appear to be a go for now. The River of Lights, a series of displays through Fishermans Park, is always on, rain or shine, for people to visit at their own risk. The city's Lost Pines Christmas event continues into its third weekend, with the annual Snow Day and Lighted Christmas Parade happening Saturday. The First Friday Art Walk will continue as normal, as will Saturday's events, though small adjustments might be necessary, such as where the city will put the snow. Severe weather, including flooding, would change the plans.
Marble Falls Walkway of Lights

Due to safety concerns, Marble Falls' Walkway of Lights will not open if it's raining. The light displays at Lakeside Park will stay up and open to the public through Dec. 26.
Main Street Bethlehem
- Canceled Friday
Main Street Bethlehem in Burnet is a live nativity scene that takes over the streets near 108 S. Vandeveer St. It's open 6-9 p.m. Friday through Sunday and runs Dec. 7-9 and 14-16.
