Local 7-Eleven triples their Powerball sales in 3 days

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Saturday’s numbers have been announced: 32-16-19-57-34, and the Powerball is 13.

Workers at a local 7-Eleven in Austin say folks have been filing into their store since Thursday looking for that lucky Powerball ticket. The flood of customers have brought in big earnings.

Sara works at the 7-Eleven and says the store has been packed with non-stop lines and customers with tall orders. She says the Powerball fever is contagious.

“People that aren’t even planning on buying tickets, they see everyone else buying tickets and they go ‘go ahead and let me get a couple of those’,” Sara said.

Tickets are $2, but you can add an extra buck for better chances by getting numbers for all 6 states.

Kevin Clement is visiting Austin from New Hampshire and couldn’t fight the urge to play. He says the risk is worth it, because it will allow him to participate in more philanthropy.

“It’s more than I could ever imagine and I would just have fun going around the country and helping people that need help,” Clement says.

He says he would love to help people battling with HIV in particular, because he lost his brother to the disease a few years ago.

“I would help people with housing and whatever else they needed,”Clement says.

The current wining amount reached $900 million when no one claimed the winning ticket Wednesday. The amount has rolled over 18 times because no one in the 44 states participating claimed the winning ticket on November 7th.  If no one matches the winning numbers Saturday, the amount will go up to $1.3 billion.

People have been out in force across Texas, breaking hourly sales records of lottery tickets.
