K2 cases top 200 in two weeks

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin-Travis County EMS says as of Saturday morning, they have treated 218 people for having bad reactions to K2, or synthetic marijuana, since May 29.

Police are still searching where the drug is coming from.

KXAN’s Erin Cargile spoke with a doctor on KXAN News Today says it can be tough to diagnose a specific problem.

“The problem is there’s no testing for it,” Dr. Sonia Krishna with the Seton Mind Institute said. “It doesn’t show up on a standard urine drug test so we are just guessing that it’s K2 if it doesn’t seem to go away.”

During this outbreak, doctors have also treated a number of teenagers for bad reactions. Dr. Krishna also talked about how to talk to your children about the drug.
