AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Two special prosecutors have been appointed to investigate more possible wrongdoing by Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has already been indicted on separate, felony securities fraud charges.
Fort Worth lawyers Miles Brissette and Bob Gill were chosen in November by trial Judge George Gallagher. Paxton attorney Bill Mateja said Friday that they are investigating a land deal where Paxton is accused of profiting from insider information.
Meteja said “we have cooperated fully” with the special prosecutors and “are confident that they will find no wrongdoing.”
Another team of special prosecutors are handling the securities fraud case. In that, Paxton is accused of deceiving investors by helping convince them to pump more than $100,000 into a tech startup without revealing that he was being paid by it.
