I-35 reopens in San Marcos after FedEX truck crash spills fuel

News

SAN MARCOS (KXAN) — Crews have cleared the scene and reopened I-35 in San Marcos after a FedEx 18-wheeler crash closed all of the northbound lanes of I-35 at the Highway 80 overpass in San Marcos.

The crash occurred around 2:35 a.m. after a trailer the semi was hauling hit the I-35 center wall causing the 18-wheeler to knock over a light post damaging a passing car in the process.

Fuel spilled on the roadway during the crash in addition to freon from the trailer cargo. The San Marcos Fire Department deployed a HAZMAT team to clean up the non-flammable spill, which does not pose a threat to the public.

The semi-truck driver has been transported to Seton Medical Center to treat his minor injuries.

Drivers were detoured around the crash by taking the Highway 80 exit, then the next on-ramp; or by using Highway 21.
