AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police say a woman was shot and killed by her husband in southeast Austin, early Sunday morning.

Police were dispatched to Walton Heath Circle near Onion Creek Parkway at 12:23 a.m. Officers found Nicole Volmer, 40, with a gunshot wound and began first aid until Austin-Travis County EMS medics arrived and took over rescue efforts.

Volmer was taken to South Austin Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed Sunday by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Volmer died as as the result of a single gunshot wound and the death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives learned that the victim’s husband, Michael Volmer, 42, had been arguing at the time of the shooting. Police say Michael Volmer retrieved one of his guns and shot her. He has been charged with first degree murder with a bond set at $100,000.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588.

This was one of two homicides on Sunday, Dec. 18. The second case happened around 10:40 p.m., in the 2700 block of South Congress Avenue. Police say a woman was stabbed to death; one person is in custody.
