AUSTIN (KXAN) — After experiencing a partial power outage overnight, Hill Elementary School in Northwest Austin lost all electricity shortly after drop-off time Monday morning. Austin Independent School District and City of Austin crews worked to restore power as quickly as possible, and the lights came back on sometime around 9:35 a.m. School officials had said that all students were safe during the blackout and that teachers were continuing classroom activities — “making the most of a different school day.”

Strong storms sent tree limbs and debris crashing onto power lines, knocking out power to thousands throughout Central Texas. Austin Energy reports the outages affected 7,600 of their customers at the height of the storm. At 4:30 a.m., 3,688 were still without power, but by 7:03 a.m., power outages were down to 744 affected customers. Some 10 restoration crews and six tree trimming crews fanned out to 38 locations to begin repairs early Monday morning.

Austin Energy says the majority of the outages affected three circuits. One is in an area bounded roughly by Slaughter, Brodie, Westgate, Davis and Manchaca. Another is in the MoPac, 360 and Spyglass area. And the third is in the Guadalupe, 45th, 38th and Avenue G area.

Bluebonnet Electric Co-Op reports about 30 outages, leaving 2415 members without power. 1330 of those are near Luling, 481 near Brenham and 57 near Smithville.

Oncor Energy is reporting multiple outages in Hutto, Round Rock and Taylor. They also say at least 1,500 are without power in the Pflugerville area.

Pedernales Electric Co-op spokesperson, Anne Harvey, says they fared very well, with only a few scattered outages reported among their 266,000 meters. Their largest outage affected about 200 customers in the Oak Hill area, but was restored quickly.
