Granite Shoals man arrested, accused of attempted murder of a police officer

GRANITE SHOALS, Texas (KXAN) — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly firing a shotgun at an officer responding to a disturbance, according to Granite Shoals police.

An officer was dispatched to the 2200 block of Washington Drive at 9:13 a.m. in response to a call of harassment and a gunshot fired into the air.

At the scene, the officer attempted to make contact with the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Gregory Edward Bevesdorf, at his home which was a small travel trailer. According to the officer, he knocked on the side of the trailer and Bevesdorf fired a shot at the direction of the officer from inside.

The officer reported that as he was moving away after the initial shot, Bevesdorf exited the trailer with a shotgun and fired a second time in the officer’s direction. The officer stated that he was unharmed and called for backup.

Once on the scene negotiators made contact with Bevesdorf inside the trailer. They report that Bevesdorf broke off communication with the negotiators and exited the trailer unarmed.

According to police Bevesdorf was still uncooperative and a taser had to be deployed in order to apprehend him.

Bevesdorf was taken to the Burnet County jail and has been charged with attempted capital murder of a peace officer.
