LEANDER (KXAN) — A natural gas leak in Leander will have FM 2243 closed for the next five hours.

The road will be closed between Bagdad and Deercreek. Police say a construction crew working in the area hit the line. Officials say to avoid the area and find an alternate route; they expect the road to be back open by 5 p.m.

The Leander Fire Department says they are keeping a close eye on the air quality with gas monitors. Repairs to the leak are currently underway.

Those who live nearby may smell gas, but fire crews say there is no need evacuate the area at this time.Update: Gas leak was repaired and road reopened around 3 p.m.
