AUSTIN (KXAN) — Garrett Wilson, the electric receiver from Lake Travis, picked Ohio State over Texas this weekend.
Wilson, who moved from Ohio to Austin after eighth grade, made official visits to both schools in recent weeks, but the allure of going back close to home won out.
There’s an easy critique being thrown at Texas– how can the local kid not choose the nearby Longhorns?
It’s not that simple. Clearly, Wilson has a strong connection to Ohio with friends, family and a former Lake Travis teammate, Matthew Baldwin, in Columbus playing for the Buckeyes.
It’s also not a stretch to simply look at the product on the field. Ohio State has won at least 11 games six straight seasons.
This year, Texas won a bowl game for the first time since 2012 while the offense didn’t exactly inspire confidence.
