AUSTIN (KXAN) — Wednesday is tax day. For those who haven’t prepared their taxes yet a local non-profit will help prepare them for free.

Foundation Communities has five locations to help serve thousands of Central Texans. That name might sound familiar because they helped thousands sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act. But every year they also help those making less than $50,000 a year prepare their taxes. So far this tax season they have helped 16,000 Central Texans get their taxes done.

Today is also the deadline to file for an extension.  That provides an additional six months to file taxes, however taxpayers still have to estimate the amount of tax owed and pay it by today.

Those interested in getting free help with their taxes can either stop by one of five locations or make an appointment. Foundation Communities is located at Highland Mall, LifeWorks East office on Pleasant Valley Road, Southeast Health and Wellness Center on Montopolis Drive, Round Rock Public Library on East Main Street, and the Community Financial Center on West Stassney Lane.  To contact by phone, 512-610-7374.
