AUSTIN (KXAN) — Fire forced seven people from their Southeast Austin home early Thursday morning. They survived, but four dogs died in the blaze.

It broke out around 2 a.m. in the community at 1601 East Slaughter Lane. Investigators believe the fire started in the utility space behind the washer and dryer.

The people who were staying in the home are now with neighbors for now and getting help from the American Red Cross of Central Texas.
