When the year started, research firm CoreLogic declared home prices across the country were set to soar in 2018 especially in the west.

The experts say that’s because the economy has improved. Mortgage rates remain relatively low and there are not that many properties on the market creating pent up demand and that drives up prices.

Last year, housing prices rose 6.3 percent nationwide with cities such as Denver, Seattle, Las Vegas and San Francisco leading the way.

San Francisco prices are so high now that in February the median price of a home in the area was $750,000, that’s three quarters of a million.

Nexstar-TV Stations across the U.S. took a look at what you can get in their markets for that price.

In the Bay Area, here’s what you can get for that kind of money.

This house in Clayton is listed at $749,000. It has four bedrooms and two baths on 1,500 square feet. The kitchen has a retro feel and the backyard features a relaxing swimming pool and more.

The same kind of money can get you a lot more house in other cities.

Even in Las Vegas, where home prices also soared six percent last year.

This home that sits on a half an acre is in a gated community. The 3,600-square-foot, two-story home includes three bedrooms and three baths. The entire second floor is the master suite.

A unique feature in the home is in the backyard, we’re not talking about the swimming pool, but the outdoor kitchen.

If desert living is what you desire, consider this home just outside of Phoenix.

$750,000 gets you into this Tuscan-style home with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It’s a little over 3,600 square feet.

The backyard is tricked out with a pool, a little putting green and a spiral staircase that leads to a rooftop deck. If golf is your game, you are right off the 12th hole of the neighboring golf course.

$750,000 would get you 3,400 square feet in Fresno with four bedrooms, three baths and a three-car garage.

In the central valley heat, you’ll relax in the Olympic size pool and there’s plenty of room for a growing family.

For a little less money, you can still get a huge house in Bakersfield.

This 4,200-square-foot home goes for $719,000. In a gated community, this four-bedroom, three-bath home has a lot of living space.

It sports a full-size pool and spa plus a fireplace and barbeque. There’s even separate quarters for a mother-in-law unit.

But if a cooler climate is what you prefer and have a few more bucks, go to Salt Lake City.

For $800,000, you can own a home in what some call “The Beverly Hills of Utah.” Built in 1954, this charmer has five bedrooms and three baths and sits on a quarter acre.

For a little less, but 30 miles father from downtown, check out this house in Syracuse.

This house is huge, 5,800 square feet with six bedrooms and three baths. It has a four car garage and a large home theater all on a third of an acre.

But if it’s paradise you want, let’s go to Hawaii.

In Royal Kunia in Waipahu, $750,000 will get you 1,500 square feet with four bedrooms and two and a half baths. The house is 45 minutes from Honolulu.

The ocean air and tropical weather is priceless.
