Five displaced in North Austin apartment fire

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Five people are being displaced after a fire damages two apartment buildings in North Austin Saturday night.

Austin fire crews responded to reports of heavy fire coming from the third floor of a unit at the Walnut Creek Crossing Apartments on Cedar Bend Drive just before 9 p.m.

AFD says an improperly discarded cigarette from the balcony of the top floor started the fire, which caused $50,000 in damages.

According to police, everyone in the building was evacuated safely. Those displaced will get assistance from the Red Cross.
