MANHATTAN, KS (KXAN) — Texas was on its heels from the opening tip at Kansas State jumping out to a 42-23 lead at halftime and cruising from there.
The Longhorns flat out couldn’t get stops. The Wildcats shot 61% in the first quarter to put Texas in catch up mode and it never happened for the Horns.
Kansas State reached its highest point total in the history of the Texas-K State series with an 87-69 win.
Kayla Goth was Kansas State’s leading scorer with 20. Peyton Williams and Christianna Carr paced K State from the 3-point line combining for seven 3-pointers. Carr scored 19 points and Williams scored 18 in the rout.
The Longhorns started the third quarter on a run scoring the first seven of the quarter to get within 12 points, but still trailed by 17 going to the fourth quarter.
Alecia ‘Sug’ Sutton led Texas in scoring with 22. Danni Williams went 4 for 9 from 3-point range finishing with 18 points, but no other Longhorn reached double-figures.
Texas returns home this weekend to host TCU Saturday at 1 p.m.
