ENNIS, Texas (AP) – Texas Rangers are investigating the police shooting of a man in north Texas who officers say drove toward them in his pickup truck after a pursuit.
Police in Ennis, about 30 miles south of Dallas, say the shooting occurred Saturday evening as they were responding to a call about a gunman threatening another driver.
Ennis Police Lt. Mike Hopson says when officers tried to stop him, he refused. He eventually lost control and hit a street sign. Police ordered the man to get out but he began driving toward them.
One officer fired at the pickup windshield, hitting the driver.
Hopson says a loaded bolt-action rifle was found inside the man’s truck. The gunman, whose name hasn’t been released, is hospitalized in Dallas in critical condition and facing multiple charges.
