FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (KXAN) – Enchanted Rock State Natural Area has taken steps to reduce energy use and enhance the park by installing a solar array to the park’s headquarters.

Park officials say the 12-kilowatt array will reduce energy use by fifty percent, lowering costs and allowing for more park enhancements. They flipped the switch at a ceremony Thursday.

Visitors will be able to learn about sustainability and alternative energy before checking out the rock.

Green Mountain Energy Sun Club donated the money for the new power source.
