BURNET, Texas (KXAN) — An elderly man was found dead in a Burnet County fire Sunday.

A 911 call made by a passing driver on April 17 around 11:40 p.m. alerted Burnet County Sheriffs to a residence on fire on Hwy-29. Deputies, the fire department, and EMS arrived at the 6000 block of Hwy 29, which is East of Burnet.

Upon arriving at the scene, first-responders noted flames burning through the roof of the wooden single-story home. Once firefighters were able to enter the home they found a man dead inside.

Investigators discovered the man who died was in his 80’s. He was pronounced dead by Peggy Simon, Justice of the Peace.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct his autopsy. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.

At this time his name is being withheld while officials seek to notify his family.
