AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Longhorns motto this season is prove us right. Texas sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger is no doubt looking to prove the coaching staff right after being named starting quarterback.
Ehlinger is receiving the bulk of the work at practice since Texas coach Tom Herman announced his choice last week.
He doesn’t have to worry about a quarterback competition, instead he’s in charge of something much bigger, leading this offense out of its slump.
While Ehlinger had his moments last year, the moments were both high and low as he shared duties with junior Shane Buechele.
As a starter, the Westlake product finished the 2017 season with a 2-4 record. Now, he’s anxious to show how much this offense has grown.
“I’m really excited to be able to set the tone for who we’re going to be in 2018. To go into this with a clean slate with an empty mindset of what happened last year. Obviously, it wasn’t what we wanted it to be. To be able to move forward and set our tone for what we want it to be this year is really exciting,” Ehlinger said.
“Being a sophomore once he got named starter I can tell it helped his confidence and now he embraces the role that’s been placed on him and you can’t shy away from that and he won’t,” Texas junior receiver Collin Johnson said.
