Dog missing for three years reunited with owner in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — So many dog owners know all too well what it’s like to lose their beloved pet, even for a moment, and some dogs are never found.

At the Austin Humane Society Thursday, one dog was reunited with its owner after going missing more than three years ago.

The black dachshund named “Tank” sat on the driveway of his Fort Worth home and watched his owner Bryana McFarland leave for an out-of-town trip. Later, when McFarland’s boyfriend took Tank outside for a bathroom break, he bolted.

McFarland searched, put up fliers and went to the Humane Society, but never found him. “They always said that, because he had the microchip, they would call me if he was ever found. And now it’s three-and-a-half years later, and the Austin Humane Society calls and says we have your black dachshund, and it was Tank.”

She added, “I can’t wait to take him home.”

When Tank was first let out of his crate at the Humane Society Thursday, he bolted — again. A staff member brought him back to his excited family and they had a proper reunion.
