AUSTIN (KXAN) — The fight over academics at the forty acres is one of the topics of a new documentary premiering at South by Southwest.

Joining us in the KXAN studio is Steve Mims, director of the documentary Starving the Beast, about the showdown at UT over academic reform. The debate at the University of Texas at Austin is an example of what is happening at pubic universities around the country.

In 2011, former Governor Rick Perry urged the state’s top public universities, including UT, to make academic reforms. Former UT President Bill Power fought back against the reformation proposals, which was one of the reasons behind why he was forced to retire last year.

The documentary premiers Sunday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
