ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) – The city of Round Rock is celebrating the completion of its newest intersection.
A ceremony for the completion of the diverging diamond project will take place Monday at 2 p.m. The $6 million intersection improvements at Interstate 35 and RM 1431 was created to reduce congestion and speed up traffic in the area.
The diverging diamond will allow more vehicles to pass through the intersection at one time. Additional sidewalks are also included to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
TxDOT and Williamson County officials will share the results of the new intersection along with a ribbon cutting celebration.
The first diverging diamond in Texas opened in El Paso in 2014. The Round Rock project began in November 2015.
