HOUSTON (KXAN) — A woman in Houston who withdrew $75,000 from a bank was assaulted and run over by a robbery suspect Friday morning.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office released surveillance video of the robbery attempt and the victim’s struggle with the suspect for her purse.

KPRC reports the robbery happened at 9:38 a.m. in the parking lot along Highway 290 west of Highway 6 in northwest Harris County. Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman said the woman, who runs a check cashing business with her husband, withdrew the money from a bank and the suspects followed in an attempt to steal the money.

“These criminals out there, they’re watching, and they’re looking for easy targets,” Herman said.

In the video, you can see the woman getting out of her car and opening the door to a gas station. As she’s opening the door, a man, later identified as Davis Mitchell, 31, runs up and grabs her purse.

The woman fights back with all her might, refusing to let go of her purse with the money inside. Mitchell can be seen dragging the woman through the parking lot before her husband comes out and gets involved.

The violence escalates when a second suspect drives up and can be seen joining the fight, even kicking the husband. The second suspect, identified as Travonn Johnson, 27, manages to grab the purse and jump back into his car. Johnson is seen on video putting the car in reverse and running over the woman and her husband.

“They’ve done this before, they’re brutal, folks like this all they understand is brute force against brute force,” Herman added.

A deputy who saw the situation unfold rushed in and managed to arrest Mitchell. Johnson was arrested a short time later.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition; her husband suffered minor injuries.
